Modern Designers today, how do they communicate their perspective?

BY-  SHAMMI RITU

Westerns have always found japanese fashion interesting and something different. But, it wasn't until 1940 that Japan made it international in Paris, France. By three Japanese designers Rei Kawakubo, Issey Miyake, and Yohji Yamamoto. Their clothing was the definition of future, easy, and black. Their fashion communicated differently, out of the box, feeling alive, light and dark, unbalanced. That's what made their fashion appeal different; they communicated differently and showed us the unbelievable.

Light and Shadow

Japan is a country of respect. From when they were little they learned to bow to their elders and self-respect. In their society, they are expected to show respect. Japanese people aren't usually direct and they can be closed off sometimes. But, they sometimes like to escape by showing their emotions through fashion and being more confident. One of the First fashion designers that changed the course of fashion was Yohji Yamamoto. He first made his grand entrance in Paris showing a new type of fashion never seen before. There were shapes, layers of clothing, black and they were bold. His clothing had hints of traditional Japanese clothing as well as something new. Each piece of clothing conveyed its own emotion and let people flee society and tradition.

Escape from society

"I think perfection is ugly. Somewhere in the things humans make, I want to see scars, failure, distortion. Cause that makes use human."

The New York Times also shows people using different fashion combinations in order to look formal.  They talk to various people about what they wear and how they put together their outfits.   Each person shares a different thing about what they’re wearing.
One young woman says that she enjoys dyeing her hair different colors to fit how she feels.  Additionally, when her hair is a light and vibrant color, she wears darker clothing.  When her hair is a dark color, she wears bright clothing.
After talking to a man, we learned that the patterns and designs in his clothing give a more formal feel.  He also says that wearing a top hat and long jacket help him look formal.
The last person that The New York Times talks to shares that a lot of people in Tokyo like to wear very colorful clothing and accessories.  It makes them stand out in certain places like Paris and New York City, since not many people there wear similar clothing to those in Tokyo.
